It's official. Kirsten and I got the results from our recent board exam and we both passed. We are now fellows of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (FABORM). This organization is dedicated to raising the standards of clinical practice and research in the field of reproductive acupuncture and herbal medicine. Last week's test was the ABORM's first ever national board exam, and we are among the first 42 board certified reproductive acupuncturists in all of North America.
As some of you know from our conversations at the clinic, the exam was much mre challenging than either of us expected. While I strolled into the exam room excited and confident, by the time I reached question 97 I thought to myself, "Gee whiz......I may not pass this thing." (Only I don't believe I used the term, "gee whiz").
But we both passed and we are very proud to be part of the pioneering work of the ABORM, raising the professional standards for reproductive acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine.
In retrospect, I am happy that the exam was challenging. I think that it is important for there to be some regulation and a bar of minimum competency for those who call themselves reproductive acupuncture specialists. This is precisely why the ABORM was formed, and Kirsten and I both look forward to serving on the board and shaping the future direction of American reproductive acupuncture.
