I'd like to share with you two interesting cases that resulted in positive pregnancy tests this week.

The first one is a 41 year old business executive who has never been pregnant. In addition to her advanced maternal age, this patient had a history of moderate endometriosis, fallopian tube blockage, and ovarian cysts. She had undergone both hysteroscopy and laparoscopy to address the tubal blockage, the cysts and the endometriosis. When she first approached us for a consultation, she was already engaged in her first IVF cycle. We only had a few short weeks to help her before her egg retrieval and embryo transfer. Unfortunately, the cycle did not result in a pregnancy.

However, this patient was determined and did not give up. She decided to try a second IVF, and this time she and her husband gave our clinic a bit more time to help regulate her cycle and improve ovarian function before beginning gonadotropin stimulation of the ovaries. Working in partnership with Dr. Silverberg at the Texas Fertility Center, we are happy to report that the second IVF has been a success and that this patient is now 6 weeks pregnant. Congratulations!

The second case is a bit more interesting. It involves a 31 year old patient with chronically short cycles and luteal phase defect. She also experienced frequent spotting between cycles and clotting and pain with menstruation. This patient had one unsuccessful IUI before she began seeing us in April of 2007. After several months of treatment, her cycles became less painful and clotty, and her Basal Body Temperatures showed significant improvement. The patient reported feeling better and healthier, but still had not achieved pregnancy.

After several months of treatment with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and much soul searching, this patient finally decided to move forward with and IVF. She and her husband met with her fertility specialist and made a plan to begin an IVF cycle. Then, a few weeks before the cycle was scheduled to begin, the patient got a positive hCG pregnancy test. She had become pregnant naturally - before her IVF cycle had even begun!

We are all very pleased to see her achieve a natural pregnancy after so many months of patient waiting.

Congratulations!
