There are many considerations to keep in mind when choosing an acupuncturist. Factors such as credentials, training, success rates, and fees are all important. However, even if a practitioner is well respected and has impeccable qualifications, if you feel awkward, upset, or ill-at-ease when visiting their office, then they may not be the right person for you. In order to have a good clinical relationship and achieve success in treatment, it is probably best to find a clinic where you feel comfortable and at ease discussing your feelings, goals, and all of the details about your body and health history.

When it comes to safety, an acupuncture clinic does not have to be sterile like an operating room. However, when you visit a clinic or go for an initial consultation, pay attention to see that it is a clean, organized and professional environment. Keep in mind also that effective fertility treatment may take several months, or even up to a year. You may spend a lot of time at the acupuncturist’s office, so bear that in mind when you are assessing how comfortable you feel with the practitioners, staff and facilities at any office that you visit.

Finally, when it comes to being comfortable with a practitioner, language may be an issue to consider. Acupuncturists come from countries all over the world, including China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. While a practitioner’s ability to communicate effectively in English is certainly no reflection of his or her clinical abilities, a communication gap may affect how comfortable you feel working with a practitioner over a long course of treatment. This is an individual choice. Some people feel very comfortable working with non-native speakers and for others clear communication is paramount.
