Inquire about your acupuncturist’s credentials

At a minimum, make sure that the practitioner is a graduate of an accredited acupuncture college, and that they hold a license to practice both acupuncture and herbal medicine in your state of residence. Also, find out if they are board certified in Reproductive Oriental Medicine by the ABORM (American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine). For more information about ABORM certification, go to http://www.aborm.org.

ABORM board certification is a relatively new process. This board began certifying qualified practitioners in the Spring of 2008, so a relatively small number of acupuncturists currently hold this credential. However, even if they are not yet board certified, most Reproductive Acupuncture Specialists will be familiar with the work of the ABORM and should be able to field questions about the certification process.
