Easy Labor Treatment
According to research published in the journal, Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation and reprinted in Natural Health magazine, acupuncture treatments given during childbirth can significantly shorten a woman’s labor. Out of a selection of 120 women, those who received acupuncture treatment remained in the first stage of labor for an average of 196 minutes, while those women in the control group that did not receive acupuncture stayed in the first stage of labor for an average of 321 minutes.
The conclusion: Acupuncture performed during the first stage of labor can reduce the duration of the first stage of labor by up to 39%.
Another study looked at the effects of acupuncture on a group of women giving birth for the first time. This group of 140 women was divided into an acupuncture group and a non-acupuncture (control) group. The group that received acupuncture in the weeks leading up to their labor had a mean labor duration of 6 hours and 36 minutes, while the non-acupuncture (control) group experienced a mean duration of labor of 8 hours and 2 minutes.
The conclusion: Acupuncture performed in the weeks leading up to labor can shorten the duration of a woman’s labor by up to 18%.
